Anadidae

I went to the local community lake today just to take in something other than home and work, and took a loaf of bread to feed the ducks. Usually, when you shake the bag, these guys will come from every corner...they will fly across the lake straight at your head (and you'd better look out, because a lot of the landings leave something to be desired...). Today, however, was different. Many of them stayed on their island in the middle. Strange. Must have been mistreated or traumatized by the crowd at the fireworks display the other night (record gathering, from what I hear). Anyway, this fellow is one of the elders...he will ALWAYS show up for a snack. Of course, he also always tells you off while he is gulping down your gift---as seen here. The elders hiss and shake their heads and tails at you, as if to say, "thanks for the bread, now get out." These guys, on the other hand:

are BRAND NEW. They come in droves. Nothing scares them. They move like a herd...throw bread this way, they all move in unison...throw it that way, everybody turns and goes...it's kinda like ducky water ballet...without the grace. It was fun...

This little fella was a ham....he got right up next to my feet and babbled at me. 'Scuse me, please...some bread? Can a duck get some bread down here?? He was like a dog...took it out of your hand, caught it in midair if you tossed it...very well trained by john q. public. He was cool though, stayed with me the whole time... His head is a little fuzzy...this comes from the constant bobbing while begging...oh yeah, he has it down.

Blue Skies

After working twelve hours in my cave, I walked out to the most glorious sight! Blue skies, and a setting sun that was breathtaking to boot! Pictures do not do the setting sun justice, but the picture in my mind is still fresh and sharp. This made my very soul take a breath...all the more reason to be happy about this country and the freedom granted on her birthday (and all other days). We are blessed...

Photo Friday 7/2

Photo Friday July 2.... "Father"

Ok, regular viewers may recognize my baby girl niece, Shelby... in honor of photo friday's theme, "father", I am posting a pic of the best daddy i know...my nephew, Edward. He dotes on this child...whatever she wants, whenever she wants it (within good daddy reason, of course...uh huh.). I was there yesterday when he came home from work, and her little face just lit up...so sweet! Myself, my sister, Ed, and wee one went to the park for some play and photo ops, which i found here. Shelby is big enough to go down the little plastic slide, but not the big metal spiral one...and of course, this is the one she points at and yells, "Up!"  So, Ed gathered her up, and put her on the 2nd step...and let her climb up all by herself (she thought). Snapped this just as they launched, it was so sweet. He is the BEST daddy...

Got One!!!

Ok, thought I was gonna be outta luck again today, but on the way home this evening, the clouds parted and gorgeous color evolved...and I was lucky enough to be out on the road in an area where I could catch it. Ever felt like you got a gift from the powers that be just when you needed it the most? Bingo.

Twilight

Caught this on the way home from friend's house last night, it was one of the few times yesterday when there was actually a break in the clouds, and the sun was trying to set beautifully...unfortunately that cloud moved in with a ton more rain and the sunset was blotted out.... wait, i'm not supposed to be dissing the rain anymore, am i? hmmm......but it was almost a magnificent sunset ::::pout::::
